Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann
Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann, who has resided in the United States for over twenty years, holds both a Master's degree in Science Education and a Ph.D. in Education. She is an education scholar specializing in curriculum design and currently holds a tenured professorship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. In the winter of 2009, she gave birth to a son with her German husband.
Dr. HsingChi von Bergmann previously served as a senior researcher in international mathematics and science education comparative studies, which involved the participation of 48 countries. Her research had a profound influence on recent education reform initiatives in the United States. In the fall of this year, she began her role as a research professor at UBC in Vancouver, leading efforts to improve healthcare education with a team of scholars. Before arriving in Vancouver, Dr. von Bergmann held the position of Associate Professor in Science Education at the University of Calgary. During her time in Calgary, she began to explore early childhood education. Among the various philosophies of early childhood education, she emphasized the core principle of childcare centers, which is to facilitate interactions among children and recognize each child's unique personality. She emphasized that childcare centers should not replace the parent-child relationship but should assist parents in understanding the unique needs of each child, building trust, and providing individualized care. This philosophy aligns with the founding principles of the American Montessori School.
